Sandvik, a Swedish-headquartered Mining Machinery and Equipment Manufacturing company, reported its total carbon emissions for 2025 as approximately 8.31 billion kg CO2e. This includes Scope 1 emissions of 78.3 million kg CO2e, market-based Scope 2 emissions of 84.2 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions of approximately 8.15 billion kg CO2e. The majority of Scope 3 emissions stemmed from the use of sold products (5.45 billion kg CO2e) and purchased goods and services (2.05 billion kg CO2e).

Looking back, Sandvik's total emissions in 2024 were approximately 8.37 billion kg CO2e. In 2023, the company reported Scope 1 emissions of 80 million kg CO2e and market-based Scope 2 emissions of 65 million kg CO2e. In 2022, total Scope 1 and 2 market-based emissions were 139 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions were 9 billion kg CO2e.

Sandvik has set ambitious climate commitments validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The Sandvik Group aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain by no later than 2050. Near-term targets include a 50% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2030, compared to a 2019 base year. Additionally, the company commits to a 30% absolute reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions within the same timeframe. Long-term, Sandvik aims for a 90% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2040 from a 2019 base year, and a 90% absolute reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions by 2050 from a 2019 base year. Sandvik Rock Tools, a division of Sandvik, has an even more ambitious internal target of zero emissions by 2045 and aims for fully climate-neutral production units by 2025 regarding Scope 1 and 2 emissions.
