Sandvik's commitment to climate action is reflected in its comprehensive carbon emissions reporting and ambitious reduction targets. For the reporting year 2025, Sandvik reported total emissions of approximately 8.3 billion kg CO2e, encompassing Scope 1, 2, and 3. This figure includes roughly 81.45 million kg CO2e from Scope 1 (direct emissions) and about 84.23 million kg CO2e from Scope 2 (market-based, indirect emissions from purchased electricity, steam, heating, and cooling). The majority of their emissions, approximately 8.15 billion kg CO2e, stem from Scope 3 (indirect emissions across the value chain), with purchased goods and services (approximately 2.05 billion kg CO2e) and the use of sold products (approximately 5.45 billion kg CO2e) being the most significant contributors. Looking at the previous year, 2024, Sandvik's total emissions were approximately 8.37 billion kg CO2e. This breakdown includes approximately 81.46 million kg CO2e for Scope 1 and about 80.94 million kg CO2e for Scope 2 (market-based). Scope 3 emissions for 2024 were approximately 8.21 billion kg CO2e, with purchased goods and services contributing roughly 2.18 billion kg CO2e and the use of sold products accounting for approximately 5.49 billion kg CO2e. Sandvik has set a clear roadmap towards decarbonisation, aiming for net-zero GHG emissions across its entire value chain by 2050. This long-term vision is supported by near-term targets, including a commitment to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 50% by 2030, using 2019 as the baseline year. Furthermore, Sandvik aims to reduce absolute Scope 3 emissions by 30% by the same year. For its own operations, heating, and power (Scope 1 and 2), Sandvik targets net-zero emissions by 2040. Additionally, Sandvik Rock Tools has a specific goal to achieve fully climate-neutral production units by 2025 concerning its Scope 1 and 2 emissions. These targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), reinforcing Sandvik's alignment with global climate action goals.
