FrieslandCampina's Carbon Emissions and Climate Commitments

FrieslandCampina, a leading dairy products company headquartered in the Netherlands, is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions throughout its value chain.

Emissions Data:

In 2024, FrieslandCampina reported total global GHG emissions of approximately 17,620,000,000 kg CO2e. This comprised:

• Scope 1: Approximately 666,000,000 kg CO2e
• Scope 2: Approximately 323,000,000 kg CO2e (location-based)
• Scope 3: Approximately 16,753,000,000 kg CO2e, with purchased goods and services being the largest contributor at about 15,294,000,000 kg CO2e.

In the previous year, 2023, the company's total global emissions were approximately 18,172,000,000 kg CO2e. This included Scope 1 emissions of about 683,000,000 kg CO2e and Scope 3 emissions of approximately 17,489,000,000 kg CO2e.

For 2022, total global emissions were approximately 11,510,000,000 kg CO2e, with Scope 1 emissions around 697,000,000 kg CO2e and Scope 3 emissions at approximately 10,823,000,000 kg CO2e.

Climate Commitments and Targets:

FrieslandCampina has set ambitious targets to address its climate impact:

• Net Climate Neutrality: The company aims to achieve net climate-neutral dairy production by 2050, aligning its goals with the Paris Agreement's objective to limit warming to 1.5°C.
• Scope 1 & 2 Emissions Reduction: A significant target is to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 63% by 2030, using 2015 as the baseline year. This commitment is validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
• Scope 3 Emissions Reduction: FrieslandCampina is also working to reduce its Scope 3 emissions, with a commitment to achieve a 37.5% reduction by 2030 compared to the 2015 baseline. Additionally, specific targets for Scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services include a reduction of 42.13% by 2030 from a 2020 baseline, and for Land Use, Land-Use Change, and Forestry (FLAG) emissions, a reduction of 30.3% by 2030 from a 2020 baseline.
• No Deforestation: The company has committed to achieving no deforestation across its primary deforestation-linked commodities by December 31, 2025.
