The Ministry of Defence has set several climate commitments. They aim to reduce their Scope 1 and 2 emissions to near zero by mid-decade (2025), with a 2023 baseline. Additionally, they have a long-term ambition for 2050 to adapt capabilities to a climate-changed world, reduce environmental impact, and increase sustainability activity. A near-term absolute target is to reduce energy consumption (electricity, gas, delivered fuels) by 10% by 2025 against a 2017-18 baseline for their internal Departmental Estate. A recommended target includes an 80% reduction in Scope 1 emissions from their estate by 2030, relative to 2017-18 levels.
