Network Rail is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and has set ambitious climate targets. For the fiscal year 2024, Network Rail reported total Scope 1 and 2 emissions of approximately 154,062,400 kg CO2e. This comprises Scope 1 emissions from stationary and mobile combustion, and Scope 2 emissions from purchased electricity. In fiscal year 2023, total Scope 1 and 2 emissions were approximately 158,806,400 kg CO2e. Scope 1 emissions for 2023 included about 63,109,800 kg CO2e from mobile combustion and approximately 8,841,200 kg CO2e from stationary combustion. Scope 2 emissions for purchased electricity in 2023 were around 86,855,400 kg CO2e. A Scope 3 target has also been set to reduce indirect use-phase emissions by 28% by FY2029 from a FY2018 base year.
