Södra's climate commitments include ambitious reduction targets and detailed emissions reporting. For the reporting year 2023, Södra reported total emissions of approximately 2.43 billion kg CO2e. This figure comprises Scope 1 emissions of approximately 92 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions of approximately 2.7 million kg CO2e, and substantial Scope 3 emissions amounting to approximately 2.34 billion kg CO2e. Södra has set a near-term target to halve its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, using 2020 as the base year. This target is aligned with the 1.5°C pathway. Furthermore, Södra is committed to reducing absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 50% by 2030, also from a 2020 base year. As part of its broader climate strategy, Södra aims to ensure that 70% of its customers, representing those who process its sold products, will set science-based targets by 2027. These commitments are part of Södra Skogsägarna ekonomisk förening's SBTi-validated targets, which include a long-term net-zero commitment. The target boundary for these emissions encompasses biogenic land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.
