TÜV SÜD, headquartered in Germany and operating in Engineering Services, has actively reported on its carbon emissions and set ambitious climate commitments.

In 2025, TÜV SÜD's total reported greenhouse gas emissions were approximately 300.2 million kg CO2e. This included about 33.0 million kg CO2e from Scope 1 emissions, approximately 37.5 million kg CO2e from Scope 2 emissions (market-based), and roughly 229.8 million kg CO2e from Scope 3 emissions. Key contributors to Scope 3 included purchased goods and services (about 88.7 million kg CO2e), business travel (around 40.6 million kg CO2e), and employee commuting (approximately 31.7 million kg CO2e).

Looking back, the company's total emissions in 2024 were approximately 312.0 million kg CO2e, with Scope 1 at about 30.4 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 at roughly 37.0 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 at around 244.5 million kg CO2e. In 2023, total emissions were approximately 311.6 million kg CO2e, comprising about 28.3 million kg CO2e for Scope 1, around 33.7 million kg CO2e for Scope 2, and roughly 249.7 million kg CO2e for Scope 3.

TÜV SÜD has committed to several reduction targets. The company aims for net-zero emissions from its business operations from 2025 for Scope 1, 2, and Scope 3 business travel, with residual emissions to be compensated using certified projects. Furthermore, TÜV SÜD targets near-zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by the middle of this decade.

Validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), TÜV SÜD commits to reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain by 2050. This includes near-term targets to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% by 2030 from a 2023 base year. They also aim to reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, capital goods, upstream transportation and distribution, and business travel by 25% within the same timeframe. Long-term, TÜV SÜD commits to reducing absolute Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions by 90% by 2050 from a 2023 base year. These targets are consistent with reductions required to keep global warming to 1.5°C.
