Abb's reported carbon emissions
ABB, a global leader in the switchgear and switchboard apparatus manufacturing industry, headquartered in Switzerland (CH), is actively pursuing ambitious climate commitments. For the reporting year 2025, ABB reported a total of approximately 425.4 billion kg CO2e across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. This figure includes approximately 119 million kg CO2e for Scope 1 emissions and approximately 255 million kg CO2e for Scope 2 (location-based). Scope 3 emissions accounted for the vast majority, totalling approximately 425.3 billion kg CO2e. The most significant contributor to Scope 3 emissions was the 'use of sold products', followed by 'purchased goods and services'. ABB has set robust targets to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2050. Near-term targets include an 80% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2030, benchmarked against a 2019 baseline. They also aim for a 25% reduction in absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 2030, using 2022 as a baseline. Further long-term goals include a 100% reduction of Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050 and a 90% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2050, both from their respective baselines. These targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and are aligned with a 1.5°C warming scenario. In addition, ABB is working with its main tier-one suppliers to encourage a 50% reduction in their Scope 1 and 2 CO2e emissions.
