BPER Banca, headquartered in Italy and operating in financial intermediation services, has made significant commitments to reducing its carbon emissions.

For the fiscal year 2025, BPER Banca reported approximately 102.6 billion kg CO2e in Scope 3 emissions, primarily driven by investments (about 102.6 billion kg CO2e) and also including contributions from capital goods, business travel, employee commute, downstream leased assets, purchased goods and services, and waste generated in operations. Scope 1 and 2 emissions for 2025 are not specified.

In 2023, the bank reported total emissions of approximately 240.6 million kg CO2e, encompassing Scope 1 (approximately 181,703 kg CO2e), Scope 2 (approximately 29,432 kg CO2e), and Scope 3 (approximately 912,008 kg CO2e).

BPER Banca has established several emission reduction targets. They aim for a 30% reduction in Scope 1 emissions by 2030, using a 2021 baseline. Similarly, a 30% reduction in Scope 2 emissions is targeted by 2030, also based on a 2021 baseline. Furthermore, there are Science Based Targets (SBTi) that include a 23% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2025, and a 50% reduction by 2030, in line with Net-Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA) requirements. Another target, based on a Business As Usual (BAU) scenario, aims for an approximately 40% emission reduction by 2030 compared to a 2005 baseline for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. The bank also has a long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
