Erste, headquartered in AT and operating in financial intermediation services, is actively pursuing climate commitments. This figure includes Scope 1 emissions of about 14.9 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions (market-based) of approximately 9.3 million kg CO2e, and substantial Scope 3 emissions totalling around 48.9 billion kg CO2e, with investments accounting for the largest portion at approximately 47.1 billion kg CO2e.

Looking at previous years, total emissions for 2024 were approximately 42.4 billion kg CO2e, and for 2023, they stood at around 35.9 billion kg CO2e. In 2022, total emissions were approximately 32.1 billion kg CO2e, and in 2021, they were approximately 44.4 million kg CO2e for Scope 1 and 2 combined, as Scope 3 data was not reported.

Erste has established several significant reduction targets. The company aims for net-zero emissions (Scope 1+2) by 2050, with an interim goal of an 80% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from 2017 levels by 2030. Further interim targets include a 55% reduction by 2023 and a 60% reduction by 2025. Additionally, there's a target to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 30% by 2030 compared to 2019 levels. A coal phase-out is also planned by 2030. Erste Group also has a net-zero target to reduce its operational scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% compared to the base year of 2017. Their 2050 net-zero portfolio ambition is designed to evaluate their initiatives in mitigating emissions associated with financing activities.
