Is the DitchCarbon Portal calculator verified by a third party?
Yes. The DitchCarbon Portal calculator holds a Verification Opinion Declaration to ISO 14064-3 at limited assurance, plus UL Solutions' Sustainability Information Calculator Verification, which DitchCarbon was the first company to earn. Both are renewed annually and both are current. This is verification of the software and the methodology behind the numbers, not verification of a corporate inventory.
That distinction decides whether a Scope 3 figure holds up. A verified inventory says one company's own reported numbers were checked. A verified calculator says the method that produces every number we hand over was checked against a standard, and gets checked again each year.
What does "first" mean here?
DitchCarbon was the first company to earn UL Solutions' Sustainability Information Calculator Verification, announced 10 June 2025. The announcement followed an ISO 14064-3 limited assurance engagement on Version 24 of the DitchCarbon Portal, including supplier data detection, categorisation, validation and spend-based allocation. Adrian Wain, Lead Verifier at UL Solutions, said companies adopting these tools want confirmation that the methodological basis, managed content and control environment behind them are robust, and that DitchCarbon "meets those expectations by becoming the first solution provider to undertake our rigorous Sustainability and Environmental information Calculator Verification process".
The claim is bounded to that programme, not to verification in general. Four other platforms hold public verification from other verifiers, which our benchmark post records, so first here means first through UL Solutions' Calculator Verification rather than first to be verified at all.
What the verification covers, and what it does not
UL Solutions verified the calculator and the calculation methodology inside the DitchCarbon Portal. Separately, our industry emission factor methodology for spend-based Scope 3 categories 1 and 2, purchased goods and services and capital goods, was independently assessed by Globus Thenken in August 2025. Neither engagement covers forecasting, benchmarking or maturity scoring, and neither is a verification of the supplier dataset or of DitchCarbon's own corporate footprint.
Which other Scope 3 tools are verified?
DitchCarbon is the only specialist Scope 3 tool with third-party assurance of its calculation methodology. Our benchmark post lists five platforms with public verification. The other four are not specialist Scope 3 tools: two are full-inventory carbon accounting platforms, one is a calculation API and one is commodity-focused. Every vendor we checked is in that table, verified or not, with the verifier and the evidence for each: Who's really verified? A reality check on carbon software assurance.
What it means when your auditor asks
Audit-ready on its own is a marketing claim, so we pair it with the standard: audit-ready plus ISO 14064-3 verification. Every figure carries its source and change history, so a third-party auditor can follow a number back to the source it came from. That is what makes the data auditable, and it is how teams reach numbers you can defend within 2 weeks. DitchCarbon data has also been used in customer emissions reports that were subsequently assured by ten different third-party assurance providers, including Big Four firms.
Your own auditor can have a login at no cost, so they can check a figure against its source themselves rather than take the number on trust.
Where to find the evidence
The ISO 14064-3 report and the Globus Thenken assessment are downloads on our trust centre, alongside SOC 2 Type II, penetration testing and AI data privacy documentation: ditchcarbon.com/resources/trust-centre.
DitchCarbon provides verified emissions data for over 2 million organisations, so procurement, sustainability and finance teams can measure and act on supply chain and portfolio emissions from one source. The verification above is what sits behind the word verified. To see how it behaves on your own supplier or portfolio list, request a walkthrough.
If you are the one being asked for emissions data, claim your company profile and publish your figures with their sources attached.
