Certara, a US-headquartered research and development services company, reported total emissions of approximately 7.07 million kg CO2e in 2024. This figure includes around 160,670 kg CO2e from Scope 1 emissions, 796,480 kg CO2e from Scope 2 (location-based), and 6.15 million kg CO2e from Scope 3 emissions. In the previous year, 2023, Certara's total emissions were approximately 9.01 million kg CO2e, comprising around 363,340 kg CO2e from Scope 1, 816,410 kg CO2e from Scope 2 (location-based), and 7.77 million kg CO2e from Scope 3. For 2022, Certara reported approximately 46,910 kg CO2e from Scope 1 fugitive emissions, 394,860 kg CO2e from Scope 1 stationary combustion, and 1.13 million kg CO2e from Scope 2 (market-based purchased electricity).

Certara has established ambitious climate commitments, including near-term net-zero targets to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions to near zero by the middle of this decade (2023-2025). Furthermore, Certara, Inc. has committed to science-based targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). These include reducing absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 63.0% by 2035 from a 2024 base year. The company also commits to reducing absolute Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions from fuel- and energy-related activities, upstream leased assets, and downstream leased assets by 37.5% within the same timeframe. Additionally, Certara has committed that 89.66% of its suppliers by spend, covering purchased goods and services, capital goods, and upstream transportation and distribution, will have science-based targets by 2030.
