Ecopetrol: Climate Commitments and Emissions Performance

Ecopetrol, a Colombian-based non-specified petroleum products company, is actively working to reduce its carbon footprint and has set ambitious climate targets.

Latest Emissions Data:

In 2025, Ecopetrol's reported Scope 3 emissions were approximately 146 billion kg CO2e. This includes about 137.24 billion kg CO2e from the use of sold products and 7.3 billion kg CO2e from purchased goods and services. Additionally, combined Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions for 2025 were approximately 12.2 billion kg CO2e.

Looking back, in 2021, Ecopetrol reported total Scope 1 emissions of approximately 12.515 billion kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions of about 583.36 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions of around 138.536 billion kg CO2e.

Climate Commitments and Targets:

Ecopetrol has committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions for Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 2050. This long-term goal aligns with climate scenarios aiming to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

In the near term, Ecopetrol has set the following absolute reduction targets for 2030, using a 2019 baseline:

• A 55% reduction in Scope 1 emissions.
• A 55% reduction in Scope 2 emissions.

Ecopetrol also aims to reduce its overall carbon intensity. Specifically, it targets a 15% to 20% decrease in the Carbon Intensity Index (CII) of energy sold to the end customer by 2030, compared to 2019 levels.

For all scopes (Scope 1, 2, and 3), the Ecopetrol Group is striving for a 50% reduction in total emissions by 2050, compared to the 2019 baseline.
