In 2022, GKN Automotive's total emissions were approximately 22.82 billion kg CO2e, comprising Scope 1 emissions of around 53.7 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions (market-based) of about 358.9 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions of approximately 22.4 billion kg CO2e. Emissions data for 2021 is also available, showing Scope 1 emissions of approximately 41.2 million kg CO2e and Scope 2 emissions (both market-based and location-based) of about 260.6 million kg CO2e. Scope 3 data was not disclosed for 2021.

GKN Automotive is committed to ambitious emissions reduction targets in line with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The company has committed to reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2045. In the near term, GKN Automotive aims to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030, using 2021 as the base year. Additionally, they are targeting a 25% reduction in absolute Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions within the same timeframe. For the long term, the company plans to achieve a 90% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2045, also from a 2021 baseline, and a 90% reduction in absolute Scope 3 emissions by 2045. These targets are recognised as being consistent with the 1.5°C warming pathway.
