Bayer's reported carbon emissions
Bayer AG, a pharmaceutical preparation manufacturing company headquartered in Germany, has set ambitious climate targets. In 2025, the company reported a total of approximately 931.1 billion kg CO2e. This included Scope 1 emissions of around 1.89 billion kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions of approximately 1.48 billion kg CO2e (location-based), and a significant Scope 3 contribution of about 910 billion kg CO2e. Bayer is committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain by 2050. Notably, Bayer aims to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 42% by the end of 2029, using 2019 as the base year. Furthermore, the company is working towards a 12% reduction in specific Scope 3 categories, including purchased goods and services, capital goods, fuel and energy-related activities, upstream transportation and distribution, and business travel, also by 2029. A broader Scope 3 reduction target of 25% by 2029 has also been established. In addition to these targets, Bayer is focused on enabling its farming customers to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions per kilogram of crop produced by 30% by 2030. The company is also implementing energy efficiency measures at its sites and increasing its procurement of electricity from renewable sources, aiming for climate neutrality at its own sites by 2030.
