Dubai Municipality reported total carbon emissions of approximately 3.79 billion kg CO2e in 2023, encompassing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. Scope 1 emissions for the same year were approximately 3.56 billion kg CO2e, while Scope 2 emissions were approximately 235 million kg CO2e.

In 2022, the municipality's total emissions were approximately 3.54 billion kg CO2e, with Scope 1 emissions at around 3.30 billion kg CO2e and Scope 2 emissions at approximately 240 million kg CO2e. Prior to this, in 2021, total emissions stood at approximately 3.53 billion kg CO2e, comprising around 3.29 billion kg CO2e for Scope 1 and approximately 233 million kg CO2e for Scope 2. A much earlier record from 2014 shows total emissions of approximately 221.5 million kg CO2e. Dubai Municipality does not currently report Scope 3 emissions, citing missing data for categories such as purchased goods and services, business travel, and employee commute.

Dubai Municipality is committed to climate action and is aligning its efforts with Dubai’s Carbon Abatement Strategy 2030, which sets a target to reduce CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030. Furthermore, the organisation is working towards the UAE’s net zero emissions vision for 2050. These targets apply to both Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
