JSW Cement, a company within the Cement, lime and plaster industry headquartered in India, has reported its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for the fiscal year 2024. In this period, the company's total emissions, encompassing Scope 1, 2, and 3, amounted to approximately 3.63 billion kg CO2e.

Specifically, Scope 1 emissions were recorded at approximately 2.97 billion kg CO2e, and Scope 2 emissions stood at around 346.32 million kg CO2e. Scope 3 emissions were substantial, with significant contributions from fuel and energy-related activities (approximately 248.54 million kg CO2e) and purchased goods and services (approximately 51.00 million kg CO2e). Other disclosed Scope 3 categories include downstream transportation and distribution, processing of sold products, capital goods, upstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations, and employee commute.

JSW Cement has set ambitious climate targets. The company is committed to reducing its gross Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 32.96% per tonne of cementitious materials by FY2034, using FY2023 as a base year. This includes a specific commitment to reduce gross Scope 1 emissions by 30.51% and gross Scope 2 emissions by 32.96% within the same timeframe. Furthermore, JSW Cement aims to reduce its gross Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods by 36.18% per tonne of purchased clinker and cement by FY2034, also from a FY2023 baseline. These targets align with keeping global warming to 1.5°C.

It is important to note that JSW Cement's emissions data and reduction targets are cascaded from its ultimate parent organisation, JSW Cement Limited, which has a Net Zero commitment by 2050.
