In 2019, JTB's total emissions were approximately 4.6 billion kg CO2e, consisting of about 2.1 million kg CO2e from Scope 1, 35.0 million kg CO2e from Scope 2, and 4.5 billion kg CO2e from Scope 3.

JTB is committed to significant climate action, with targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The company aims to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions for Scope 1 and Scope 2 by FY2030, from a FY2019 base year, representing a 100% absolute reduction for both scopes. Additionally, JTB is committed to reducing absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from specific categories, including purchased goods and services, capital goods, fuel- and energy-related activities, upstream transportation and distribution, business travel, employee commuting, downstream transportation and distribution, use of sold products, and end-of-life treatment of sold products, by 28.0% within the same timeframe (FY2019 to FY2030). JTB also targets that 68.0% of its suppliers and customers, by emissions covering purchased goods and services, capital goods, upstream transportation and distribution, business travel, and use of sold products, will have science-based targets by FY2030. These near-term targets for Scope 1 and 2 are consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C. The company also has an internal target to reduce power consumption by 10% by FY2030 through initiatives like switching to LED lighting and equipping air conditioners with energy-saving ceramic sheets.
