Whitbread Court

Whitbread Court, a UK-based hotel and restaurant services company, reported total carbon emissions of approximately 471.6 million kg CO2e in 2025. This included about 58.5 million kg CO2e from Scope 1 emissions, 5.9 million kg CO2e from market-based Scope 2 emissions (or 81.4 million kg CO2e location-based), and 407.2 million kg CO2e from Scope 3 emissions.

In 2024, Whitbread Court's reported Scope 1 emissions were approximately 63.8 million kg CO2e and market-based Scope 2 emissions were around 7.5 million kg CO2e (or 89.1 million kg CO2e location-based). Scope 3 emissions data for 2024 was not fully disclosed, with specific missing data points for purchased goods and services and employee commute.

For 2023, Scope 1 emissions were about 65.1 million kg CO2e, and market-based Scope 2 emissions were approximately 8.0 million kg CO2e (or 75.6 million kg CO2e location-based). Similar to 2024, Scope 3 emissions data for 2023 was not fully disclosed.

Whitbread PLC has set ambitious climate commitments. The company aims to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by FY2050, as recognised by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). They have updated their carbon target to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, a decade earlier than their original plan.

Their near-term SBTi targets, valid until FY2030, include reducing Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 84.1% per square metre from a FY2016 base year. They also commit to reducing Scope 3 GHG emissions by 58.1% per square metre by FY2030 from a FY2018 base year. Additionally, they aim to reduce absolute Scope 1 GHG emissions by 84.1% by FY2030 from a FY2017 base year, absolute Scope 2 GHG emissions by 84.1% by FY2030 from a FY2017 base year, and absolute Scope 3 FLAG GHG emissions by 36.4% by FY2030 from a FY2019 base year.

For the long term, Whitbread PLC commits to reducing Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 99.6% by FY2040 from a FY2016 base year. They also target a 90% reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions by FY2050 from a FY2018 base year. The company also commits to reducing its Scope 3 carbon emissions intensity by 50% by 2035 and 64% by 2050. These targets are consistent with keeping global warming to 1.5°C. Whitbread also commits to no-deforestation across its primary deforestation-linked commodities by December 31, 2025.
