Outokumpu

Outokumpu, headquartered in Finland and operating in the basic iron and steel and ferro-alloys industry, reported total emissions of about 3.64 billion kg CO2e in 2025. This total comprised approximately 1.03 billion kg CO2e from Scope 1, 373.5 million kg CO2e from Scope 2 (market-based), and 2.24 billion kg CO2e from Scope 3 emissions. In the prior year, 2024, total emissions were approximately 3.70 billion kg CO2e, including Scope 1 emissions of about 990.6 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 (market-based) emissions of around 364.7 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions of about 2.35 billion kg CO2e.

Outokumpu is committed to achieving carbon neutrality across all scopes by 2050. Specifically, they aim for carbon neutrality for operational emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 2050. They also have a near-term goal to make the Kemi mine the world's first carbon-neutral operating mine by 2025.

Outokumpu has set a Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) approved target to reduce its Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions intensity by 42% per tonne of stainless steel by 2030, using a 2016 baseline. This target aligns with a 1.5°C global warming scenario. In 2016, total emissions were about 5.59 billion kg CO2e, with Scope 1 emissions at approximately 1.21 billion kg CO2e, and Scope 2 (market-based) emissions at about 1.21 billion kg CO2e.
