For the reporting year 2025, Telstra reported a total of approximately 2.17 billion kg CO2e across all scopes. This breaks down into approximately 31.8 million kg CO2e for Scope 1, around 704 million kg CO2e for Scope 2, and approximately 1.45 billion kg CO2e for Scope 3. Key contributors to Scope 3 emissions include purchased goods and services (approximately 723 million kg CO2e) and capital goods (approximately 332 million kg CO2e). Telstra aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, aligning with the Paris Agreement. To support this long-term goal, the company has set near-term targets, including a commitment to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by at least 70% by 2030, from a FY19 baseline. They also aim to reduce absolute Scope 3 emissions by at least 50% by 2030, also from a FY19 baseline. Further targets include achieving renewable energy generation equivalent to 100% of their consumption by 2025. These targets are recognised by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as being consistent with limiting warming to 1.5°C. Telstra has also committed to long-term goals of reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 95% and absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 90% by FY2050, all from a FY19 base year.
