Endesa, a Spanish electricity distribution and trade services company, has committed to significant climate action, aiming for fully decarbonised generation by 2040 and "Net-Zero" across all scopes by the same year. These targets reflect a strong commitment to combating climate change.
In 2025, Endesa's total reported carbon emissions were approximately 25.8 billion kg CO2e. This included around 10.33 billion kg CO2e from Scope 1 emissions, 725.17 million kg CO2e from market-based Scope 2 emissions, and approximately 14.75 billion kg CO2e from Scope 3 emissions.
Looking at previous years, in 2024, Endesa's total emissions were approximately 27.18 billion kg CO2e, with Scope 1 at about 10.02 billion kg CO2e, market-based Scope 2 at 691.29 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 at roughly 16.46 billion kg CO2e. Endesa has set a near-term target to reduce specific Scope 1 emissions by 80% by 2030, compared to a 2017 baseline. This ambitious goal is supported by plans to increase mainland renewable capacity by 48% between 2022 and 2024. Endesa's parent company, Enel SpA, also influences some of its climate initiatives, with SBTi, CA100, and RTZ initiatives cascaded from them.
The company's commitment to decarbonisation is long-standing, with a confirmed goal for a decarbonised energy mix by 2050, referencing a 2018 report. Endesa voluntarily calculates and verifies its carbon footprint, having registered it since 2013 and demonstrating progress in emission reductions according to Spanish Climate Change Office criteria. By 2021, Endesa had reduced emissions by 69% compared to 2015 and 81% since 2005.
