Airbus's reported carbon emissions
Airbus, headquartered in the Netherlands and operating in the machinery and equipment sector, has outlined significant climate commitments and emissions data.
For the year 2025, Airbus reported total global emissions of approximately 493.3 billion kg CO2e. This includes Scope 1 emissions of around 480 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 market-based emissions of approximately 135 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions, predominantly from the use of sold products, totalling about 492.7 billion kg CO2e. The combined Scope 1 and 2 market-based emissions for 2025 were approximately 1.28 billion kg CO2e.
In 2024, Airbus's total global emissions were approximately 475.3 billion kg CO2e. Scope 1 emissions were around 462 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 market-based emissions were approximately 160 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions, largely from the use of sold products, amounted to about 474.7 billion kg CO2e. The combined Scope 1 and 2 market-based emissions for 2024 were approximately 615 million kg CO2e.
For 2022, Scope 1 emissions were reported at 549 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 market-based emissions at 208 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions included 47 million kg CO2e for business travel, 10.3 billion kg CO2e for purchased goods and services, and 494.9 billion kg CO2e for the use of sold products. The total Scope 1 and 2 market-based emissions for 2022 were approximately 757 million kg CO2e.
Airbus has set ambitious targets, including a commitment to reduce direct (Scope 1) and indirect (Scope 2) net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 63% by 2030, compared to a 2015 baseline. The company also aims to reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions from the use of sold products by 46% per revenue passenger kilometre (RPK) by 2035, also from a 2015 baseline. Furthermore, Airbus is committed to neutralising 100% of its residual emissions by 2030. In alignment with a 1.5°C scenario, Airbus aims for Scope 1 and 2 market-based emissions to be 467 ktCO2e by 2030, a 63% reduction from the 2015 baseline of 1,262 ktCO2e.
As part of the broader aviation industry's roadmap, Airbus supports the ambition for carbon-neutral aviation by 2050. The company is also actively pursuing the development of zero-emission aircraft, with a target to bring the first such commercial aircraft to market by 2035. This includes exploring hydrogen-powered solutions and increasing the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with an ambition to certify 100% SAF use for its commercial aircraft and helicopters by 2030.
