Looking back, Bpost's total emissions in 2024 were approximately 419.4 million kg CO2e. In 2023, total emissions were around 453.5 million kg CO2e, comprising about 78.9 million kg CO2e (Scope 1), 29.9 million kg CO2e (Scope 2 market-based), and 344.7 million kg CO2e (Scope 3). For 2022, the company reported total emissions of approximately 425.8 million kg CO2e, with Scope 1 at about 90.1 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 at approximately 28.6 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 at around 307 million kg CO2e.

Bpost has set ambitious climate commitments. The company is committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2050, with a near-term goal to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 71.3% by 2035 from a 2024 base year. Additionally, Bpost aims to reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, capital goods, fuel- and energy-related activities, upstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations, business travel, and employee commuting by 38.2% within the same timeframe. The company also has a long-term target to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 90.9% and absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 90.1% by 2050, both from a 2024 base year. These targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Previously, Bpost had a near-term target to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 55% by 2030 from a 2019 base year, and absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from specific categories by 14% within the same timeframe, which was also recognised by the SBTi. Furthermore, Bpost signed The Climate Pledge on 24th October 2022, further demonstrating its commitment to climate action.
