Three appointments this month share a pattern. Sustainability expertise isn't staying inside standalone reporting or compliance functions. It's showing up inside product teams, government-affairs briefs and consultancies that get paid to apply it, not just report on it.

Rolls-Royce hires its first Global Chief Sustainability Officer
Rolls-Royce has appointed Ivanka Mamic as its first-ever Global Chief Sustainability Officer. She joins from BP, where she spent five years as SVP and Chief Sustainability Officer overseeing the energy major's sustainability strategy, including its since-revised net-zero commitments.
At Rolls-Royce, Mamic will lead the build-out of the company's first combined sustainability and government-affairs function, a brief that spans civil aerospace, defence and small modular reactors. Rolls-Royce's public targets are 2050 net zero, with a 46% reduction by 2030. Creating a dedicated global CSO role for the first time signals how central sustainability has become to the company's strategy across three very different business lines.

Dow appoints a director for life cycle assessment and carbon monetisation
Dow has named Raoul Meys Oliveira Director of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Carbon Accounting and Monetisation. In his own words, the role is about "unlocking value from low-carbon products, supporting customers in achieving their sustainability goals with trustworthy information, and ultimately strengthening Dow's leadership in the transition to a low-carbon economy."
It's a notable framing. Rather than a purely reporting-focused LCA role, this one is explicitly commercial: turning carbon accounting into something that supports customer decisions and product value, not just disclosure.
A GHG Protocol veteran moves from Deloitte to ClimeCo

Cynthia Cummis, who helped shape the GHG Protocol's corporate accounting standards and co-founded the Science Based Targets initiative, has joined the consultancy ClimeCo after a period at Deloitte. It's a move worth flagging for what it represents as much as who's involved: one of the people who helped write the rules is now working directly with companies trying to apply them.
