What is the functional unit of a service footprint?

The functional unit is the quantity of service the footprint is measured against. For freight it is usually a tonne-kilometre, for software a user or a compute hour, for professional services an hour or a project. It has to be stated on the footprint, because the same service measured per hour and per project gives numbers that cannot be compared or added.
