Bekaert, headquartered in Belgium and operating in the fabricated metal products sector, reported a total of approximately 6.08 billion kg CO2e in emissions for the year 2023. This figure encompasses Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. For Scope 1, Bekaert emitted approximately 250.65 million kg CO2e, primarily from stationary combustion. Scope 2 emissions (purchased electricity, steam, and heat) totalled approximately 1.13 billion kg CO2e on a market-based basis. Scope 3 emissions accounted for the largest portion, reaching approximately 4.76 billion kg CO2e, with purchased goods and services being the most significant contributor.

Bekaert has set ambitious climate targets. The company is committed to reducing its combined Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 46.2% by 2030, using 2019 as the baseline year. This target is in line with science-based targets. Furthermore, Bekaert aims to achieve Carbon Net Zero by 2050. They have also committed to reducing their Scope 3 emissions related to purchased goods and services by 19.7% by 2035, also compared to 2019.
