Cementir Holding, an IT-based company in the cement, lime, and plaster industry, reported significant greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In 2023, the company's total emissions were approximately 10.31 billion kg CO2e. This included Scope 1 emissions of about 7.20 billion kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions of approximately 424.42 million kg CO2e (location-based), and Scope 3 emissions of roughly 2.60 billion kg CO2e.

The company has established several climate commitments. Cementir Holding aims to reduce its Scope 1 emissions intensity to less than 500 kg of CO₂ per ton of grey cement by 2030, a reduction from 684 kg in 2021. Additionally, they are committed to reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 25% per ton of cement by 2030, using 2020 as the base year. Furthermore, a commitment to reach net-zero GHG emissions across the value chain by 2050 has been set.

More recent targets include a Scope 1 emissions reduction of 44% by 2030, aiming for 404 kg of CO₂ per ton of grey cement. They also set new 2030 decarbonisation targets for grey cement of -42% to 417 Kg from 718 Kg, and for white cement of -29% to 653 Kg from 915 Kg.

Cementir Holding's Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitments align with a 1.5°C pathway. This includes near-term targets to reduce gross Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 29.33% per ton of cementitious product by 2030, from a 2021 base year. They also commit to reducing gross Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services by 23.00% per ton of purchased clinker and cement by 2030, also from a 2021 base year. Long-term targets involve a 96.1% reduction in gross Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per ton of cementitious product by 2050 and an absolute Scope 3 reduction of 90% by 2050, both from a 2021 base year.
