Cht's reported carbon emissions

Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), a Taiwan-based company operating in the Post and telecommunication services industry, has reported its carbon emissions and set significant climate commitments. For the year 2025, CHT reported a total of approximately 2.47 billion kg CO2e emissions. This figure is comprised of Scope 1 emissions totalling about 25.6 million kg CO2e, and Scope 2 emissions (market-based) of approximately 655.7 million kg CO2e. Scope 3 emissions for 2025 were substantial, amounting to about 1.79 billion kg CO2e, with purchased goods and services (596.9 million kg CO2e) and capital goods (617.8 million kg CO2e) being the largest contributors. In 2024, CHT's total emissions were approximately 2.37 billion kg CO2e, with Scope 1 emissions at about 20.3 million kg CO2e and Scope 2 market-based emissions at approximately 605.0 million kg CO2e. Scope 3 emissions in 2024 were reported as about 1.77 billion kg CO2e. The company's climate strategy includes ambitious reduction targets. CHT has committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2045. As part of its near-term goals, CHT aims to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030, using 2020 as a base year. Furthermore, the company has committed to reducing absolute Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030, with a 2021 base year. Long-term targets include a 95% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2040 and a 90% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2045. CHT has also declared its commitment to RE100 by 2040 and aligns with Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for net-zero goals by 2050. In 2022, CHT achieved a 9.6% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions compared to 2020 levels, reporting approximately 714,000 tonnes of CO2e for these scopes. This reduction was attributed to electricity savings and the replacement of high-energy equipment.
