Cogeco, a Canadian post and telecommunication services provider, reported total emissions of approximately 201,036,000 kg CO2e in 2023. This included about 12,528,000 kg CO2e from Scope 1 (mobile combustion) and 13,133,000 kg CO2e from Scope 2 (purchased electricity), with Scope 3 emissions totalling approximately 175,376,000 kg CO2e.

Looking back, Cogeco's total emissions in 2022 were approximately 167,934,000 kg CO2e, comprising about 12,463,000 kg CO2e for Scope 1, 17,434,000 kg CO2e for Scope 2, and 138,037,000 kg CO2e for Scope 3. In 2019, total emissions stood at approximately 244,324,000 kg CO2e, with Scope 1 at about 15,560,000 kg CO2e, Scope 2 at approximately 26,437,000 kg CO2e, and Scope 3 at about 202,327,000 kg CO2e.

Cogeco has set ambitious climate commitments. The company aims for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by FY2050, with this long-term target classified as consistent with a 1.5°C warming scenario by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

For near-term targets, Cogeco commits to a 65% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by FY2030 from a FY2019 base year. Additionally, the company targets a 30% absolute reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions from employee commuting and downstream leased assets within the same timeframe. A further 40% absolute reduction in Scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services, capital goods, and upstream transportation and distribution is targeted by FY2035 from a FY2019 base year.

Long-term SBTi commitments include a 90% absolute reduction in Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 GHG emissions by 2050 from a 2019 base year. Cogeco also previously set a near-term intensity target to reduce GHG emissions by 10% by 2020 on a per revenue basis, based on fiscal 2014 emissions for both Scope 1 and Scope 2.
