Cogeco, a Canadian post and telecommunication services provider, reported total carbon emissions of approximately 201,036,000 kg CO2e in 2023. This included approximately 12,528,000 kg CO2e from Scope 1 emissions (mobile combustion), 13,133,000 kg CO2e from Scope 2 (purchased electricity), and 175,376,000 kg CO2e from Scope 3 emissions.

In 2022, Cogeco's total emissions were about 167,934,000 kg CO2e, comprising approximately 12,463,000 kg CO2e in Scope 1, 17,434,000 kg CO2e in Scope 2, and 138,037,000 kg CO2e in Scope 3. Looking back to 2019, the company's total emissions were approximately 244,324,000 kg CO2e, with Scope 1 at about 15,560,000 kg CO2e, Scope 2 at approximately 26,437,000 kg CO2e, and Scope 3 at about 202,327,000 kg CO2e.

Cogeco Inc. has established ambitious climate commitments, with Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validated targets. The company aims for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain by FY2050.

Near-term SBTi targets include a 65% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by FY2030 from a FY2019 base year. Additionally, Cogeco Inc. commits to reducing absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from employee commuting and downstream leased assets by 30% within the same timeframe. A further 40% absolute reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, capital goods, and upstream transportation and distribution is targeted by FY2035 from a FY2019 base year.

For long-term targets, Cogeco Inc. is committed to a 90% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2050 from a 2019 base year, alongside a 90% absolute reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions within the same period.

Historically, Cogeco also set a near-term intensity target to reduce GHG emissions by 10% by 2020 on a per revenue basis, using fiscal 2014 emissions as the baseline for both Scope 1 and Scope 2.
