Ground Control

Ground Control, a UK-based company in the food waste treatment industry, reported total carbon emissions of approximately 3,548 tonnes CO2e in 2023. This total includes Scope 1 emissions of about 3,303 tonnes CO2e, primarily from mobile combustion (2,234 tonnes CO2e) and stationary combustion (40 tonnes CO2e). Scope 2 market-based emissions were approximately 73 tonnes CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions, including business travel, amounted to around 172 tonnes CO2e. Data for Scope 3 purchased goods and services was not available for 2023.

In 2022, Ground Control's Scope 1 emissions were approximately 3,303 tonnes CO2e, Scope 2 emissions were about 73 tonnes CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions totalled roughly 14,603 tonnes CO2e. Key contributors to Scope 3 in 2022 included waste generated in operations (5,691 tonnes CO2e), purchased goods and services (4,943 tonnes CO2e), and upstream transportation and distribution (1,705 tonnes CO2e).

Looking further back, in 2021, the company's total emissions were about 12,072 tonnes CO2e, comprising Scope 1 emissions of approximately 3,185 tonnes CO2e, Scope 2 market-based emissions of roughly 29 tonnes CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions of around 8,858 tonnes CO2e. Major Scope 3 categories in 2021 included waste generated in operations (7,407 tonnes CO2e) and upstream transportation and distribution (1,062 tonnes CO2e). For 2020, Ground Control reported total emissions of around 13,382 tonnes CO2e, with Scope 1 emissions at approximately 2,548 tonnes CO2e, Scope 2 emissions at about 68 tonnes CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions at roughly 10,766 tonnes CO2e.

Ground Control has demonstrated strong climate commitments. The company has set ambitious Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validated targets. Ground Control Ltd commits to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by FY2038. Near-term targets include a 90% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by FY2030 from a FY2021 base year, and a 42% absolute reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions within the same timeframe. Long-term targets aim for a 90% absolute reduction in Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions by FY2038 from a FY2021 base year. These targets are consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C. Ground Control Ltd is also a signatory of The Climate Pledge, committing to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
