Hitachi Energy AG, headquartered in Switzerland and operating in the Electrical machinery and apparatus n.e.c. industry, reported its Scope 1 emissions for 2024 as 85,424,080 kg CO2e, and its Scope 2 emissions (market-based) as 6,436,290 kg CO2e. The company's Scope 3 emissions for the same year were 158,340,629,500 kg CO2e. In 2023, its Scope 1 emissions were 82,684,780 kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions (market-based) were 9,977,470 kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions were 155,907,351,500 kg CO2e. For 2022, Hitachi Energy AG recorded Scope 1 emissions of 84,959,770 kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions (market-based) of 11,744,640 kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions of 167,921,348,500 kg CO2e. The company also disclosed Scope 1 and 2 emissions for earlier years: 196,200,000 kg CO2e in 2021, 368,900,000 kg CO2e in 2020, and 365,200,000 kg CO2e in 2019.

Hitachi Energy AG has set ambitious climate commitments. It aims to achieve carbon neutrality in its own operations by 2030, which has already resulted in a more than 50% reduction in CO2 equivalent emissions compared to 2019, equivalent to approximately 175 kilotonnes of CO2e per year.

The company's Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitments, cascaded from Hitachi Energy AG itself, include a long-term goal to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the entire value chain by FY2050. Near-term targets include an 80% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by FY2030 from a 2019 base year. Additionally, Hitachi Energy AG commits to reducing Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, upstream and downstream transportation and distribution, business travel, and use of sold products by 55% per MVA sold within the same timeframe. Long-term SBTi targets further aim for a 90% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by FY2050 from a 2019 base year, and a 97% reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions per MVA sold by FY2050.
