Italgas

Italgas, a natural gas liquids company headquartered in Italy, has set ambitious climate commitments, including a Net Zero Carbon target by 2050 for Scope 1, 2 (market-based), and 3 emissions.

In 2024, Italgas reported total emissions of approximately 158.4 million kg CO2e, comprising:

• Scope 1 emissions: approximately 95,500 kg CO2e.
• Scope 2 (market-based) emissions: approximately 54.8 million kg CO2e.
• Scope 3 emissions: approximately 103.9 million kg CO2e.

Looking forward, Italgas has set near-term absolute reduction targets from a 2020 baseline:

• A 34% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 (market-based) emissions by 2028.
• A 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 (market-based) emissions by 2030.
• A 30% reduction in Scope 3 (supply chain) emissions by 2028, increasing to a 33% reduction by 2030 (from a 2020 baseline).
• Additionally, a new target has been set for Scope 3 (supply chain) emissions, aiming for a 24% reduction by 2030, against a 2024 baseline, which includes its water business.

Italgas's initiatives to achieve these reductions include energy efficiency measures, timely inspection, leak detection and repair, and smart maintenance to address fugitive emissions. The company also plans to intensify actions and engagement with its suppliers to reduce Scope 3 emissions.
