Mettler Toledo, a US-based Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing company, reported its latest carbon emissions for 2025 as approximately 940.6 million kg CO2e. This includes Scope 1 emissions of approximately 26.3 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 market-based emissions of about 417,000 kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions totalling around 912.2 million kg CO2e.

Looking back, Mettler Toledo's total Scope 1 and 2 market-based emissions were approximately 28.2 million kg CO2e in 2024 and 28.1 million kg CO2e in 2023. Their Scope 3 emissions were around 935.7 million kg CO2e in 2024 and 975.2 million kg CO2e in 2023.

Mettler Toledo has set ambitious climate commitments validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The company is committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2050, using 2018 and 2019 as base years.

Near-term targets include:

• Reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 70% by 2030 from a 2018 base year.
• Reducing absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, fuel and energy-related activities, upstream transportation, business travel, employee commuting, and use of sold products by 30% by 2030 from a 2019 base year.

Long-term targets include:

• Reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 90% by 2050 from a 2018 base year.
• Reducing absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 90% by 2050 from a 2019 base year.

Additionally, Mettler Toledo previously aimed to reduce its carbon footprint, specifically relative Scope 1 and Scope 2 CO2 emissions per net sales, by 20% by the end of 2020 compared to 2010 levels. This target was later revised to a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions per net sales by the end of 2025, also compared to 2010.
