Mettler-Toledo International Inc. has set Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approved targets, demonstrating its commitment to climate action. The company aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2050, using 2018 and 2019 as base years for Scope 1 & 2 and Scope 3, respectively.

Its near-term targets include:

• A 70% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2030, from a 2018 base year.
• A 30% absolute reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, fuel and energy-related activities, upstream transportation, business travel, employee commuting, and use of sold products by 2030, from a 2019 base year.

For its long-term goals by 2050, the company is committed to:

• A 90% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions from a 2018 base year.
• A 90% absolute reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions from a 2019 base year.

Historically, Mettler Toledo had set a goal to reduce its carbon intensity (relative Scope 1 and Scope 2 CO2 emissions per net sales) by 20% by the end of 2020, compared with 2010. Later, it committed to a further 30% reduction in CO2 emissions per net sales by the end of 2025, compared with 2010.
