Furthermore, the company aims to reduce its Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, upstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations, and end-of-life treatment of sold products by 25% within the same timeframe. These targets are aligned with a 1.5°C pathway.

Looking further ahead, Sumitomo Bakelite strives to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions for Scope 1 and 2 by 2050. In line with these commitments, the company's reporting for fiscal year 2023 showed Scope 1 emissions of approximately 81.3 million kg CO2e and Scope 2 market-based emissions of approximately 156.5 million kg CO2e. Scope 3 emissions for 2023 were approximately 956.8 million kg CO2e.
