Sysmex, headquartered in Japan and operating in the Medical, precision and optical instruments, watches and clocks industry, reported total carbon emissions of approximately 611,400,000 kg CO2e in 2024. This figure includes Scope 1 emissions of 13,450,000 kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions of 6,183,000 kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions of 581,740,000 kg CO2e.

Looking back, in 2023, Sysmex's Scope 1 emissions were approximately 13,925,000 kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions were 6,706,000 kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions were 564,191,000 kg CO2e. In 2022, Scope 1 emissions were around 13,986,000 kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions were 15,200,000 kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions were 587,575,000 kg CO2e.

Sysmex has set ambitious climate commitments. The company is committed to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by fiscal year 2033, against a fiscal year 2022 baseline. Furthermore, Sysmex aims to reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from the use of sold products by 35% within the same timeframe. By fiscal year 2028, Sysmex also commits that 60% of its suppliers, by emissions covering purchased goods and services, capital goods, upstream transportation and distribution, and downstream transportation and distribution, will have science-based targets. These targets are validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C.

Under its "Sysmex Eco-Vision 2033", established in May 2023, the company also aims for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from its business locations by 2040. An additional near-term target includes reducing CO2 emissions in business activities by 50% (per unit) by 2025, using fiscal year 2016 as the base year, and reducing CO2 emissions from instrument use by 15% (per unit) by 2025, also against a 2016 base year.
