Sysmex's reported carbon emissions

Sysmex, a JP-based firm in the Medical, precision and optical instruments, watches and clocks sector (33), reported approximately 607.5 million kg CO2e in total emissions for the fiscal year 2024. This figure encompasses Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. For the same period, Scope 1 emissions were approximately 13.45 million kg CO2e, and Scope 2 emissions were approximately 6.18 million kg CO2e. Scope 3 emissions accounted for the largest portion, totalling approximately 581.74 million kg CO2e. Key contributors to Scope 3 emissions include purchased goods and services (approximately 219.74 million kg CO2e) and the use of sold products (approximately 130.04 million kg CO2e). Sysmex has established significant climate commitments. Under its Sysmex Eco-Vision 2033, the company aims for a 55% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by FY2033, using FY2022 as a baseline. Additionally, a 35% reduction in Scope 3 emissions from the use of sold products is targeted within the same timeframe. Sysmex also has a long-term ambition to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from its business locations by 2040. The company is committed to Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) standards, with validated targets for absolute reductions in Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Furthermore, Sysmex is working to engage its supply chain, aiming for 60% of its suppliers (by emissions) to have science-based targets by FY2028. This includes suppliers for purchased goods and services, capital goods, and upstream and downstream transportation and distribution.
