Telkom, a post and telecommunication services provider headquartered in South Africa, reported its most recent Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions for the year 2025. In 2025, Telkom's total Scope 1 emissions were approximately 35,127,000 kg CO2e. Scope 2 emissions for the same year were around 541,268,000 kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions were approximately 1,713,336,000 kg CO2e, which included 610,000 kg CO2e from waste generated in operations.

Looking at previous years, in 2024, Telkom's Scope 1 emissions were about 66,167,000 kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions were around 572,874,000 kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions totalled approximately 1,724,460,000 kg CO2e, with 644,000 kg CO2e from waste generated in operations. In 2023, the company recorded Scope 1 emissions of approximately 85,100,000 kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions of about 619,640,000 kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions of roughly 1,951,155,000 kg CO2e. The 2023 Scope 3 data included approximately 1,513,273,000 kg CO2e from downstream leased assets and 437,882,000 kg CO2e from upstream transportation and distribution. For 2022, Scope 1 emissions were approximately 55,466,000 kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions were about 797,316,000 kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions were around 1,763,692,000 kg CO2e, with 1,286,891,000 kg CO2e from downstream leased assets and 476,800,000 kg CO2e from upstream transportation and distribution.

Telkom SA SOC Limited has established Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approved reduction commitments. These include a long-term commitment to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain by FY2040. For near-term targets, Telkom aims to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 54.6% by FY2033 from a FY2022 base year. Additionally, they commit to reducing absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, fuel and energy-related activities, and use of sold products by 32.5% within the same timeframe (by FY2033 from a FY2022 base year). Long-term targets include a 90% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by FY2040 from a FY2022 base year, and a 90% reduction in absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, fuel and energy-related activities, and use of sold products within the same FY2040 timeframe. These targets are consistent with reductions required to keep global warming to 1.5°C.
