ALK, a Pharmaceutical Preparation Manufacturing company headquartered in Denmark, reported its latest available emissions data for 2023.

In 2023, ALK's total emissions were approximately 69.56 million kg CO2e. This included Scope 1 emissions of approximately 5.13 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 (market-based) emissions of approximately 0.36 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions of approximately 64.07 million kg CO2e. Key categories within Scope 3 included purchased goods and services at approximately 41.18 million kg CO2e, employee commuting at approximately 6.15 million kg CO2e, and upstream transportation and distribution at approximately 5.47 million kg CO2e.

Looking back, ALK's Scope 1 and 2 (market-based) emissions were approximately 8.63 million kg CO2e in 2021, and approximately 8.54 million kg CO2e in 2020. In 2019, Scope 1 and 2 (market-based) emissions were approximately 8.48 million kg CO2e.

ALK has set ambitious climate commitments. They aim to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030, using 2022 as a baseline year. This near-term target is validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C. Additionally, ALK commits that 80% of its suppliers by emissions covering purchased goods and services, capital goods, upstream transportation and distribution, business travel, and downstream transportation and distribution will have science-based targets by 2028.
