Investec, a financial intermediation services company headquartered in South Africa, reported its most recent emissions data for 2025, with total Scope 1 and 2 emissions of approximately 20,344,000 kg CO2e. This includes Scope 1 emissions of about 1,274,000 kg CO2e (comprising 222,000 kg CO2e from mobile combustion, 298,000 kg CO2e from fugitive emissions, and 754,000 kg CO2e from stationary combustion) and Scope 2 location-based emissions of 19,070,000 kg CO2e. It did not disclose Scope 3 emissions for 2025.
In 2024, Investec reported total Scope 1 and 2 emissions of approximately 21,171,000 kg CO2e, with Scope 1 emissions at about 3,932,000 kg CO2e and Scope 2 location-based emissions at 17,250,000 kg CO2e. In 2021, total emissions were about 25,650,000 kg CO2e, with Scope 1 emissions at approximately 349,000 kg CO2e, Scope 2 at approximately 23,365,000 kg CO2e, and Scope 3 at about 1,367,000 kg CO2e. In 2020, total emissions stood at approximately 40,564,000 kg CO2e, including Scope 1 at about 993,000 kg CO2e, Scope 2 at approximately 29,151,000 kg CO2e, and Scope 3 at about 10,449,000 kg CO2e.
Investec has set significant climate commitments. The company aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, aligning with its commitment to the Net-Zero Banking Alliance. As part of its near-term goals, Investec has committed to maintaining net-zero direct emissions (Scope 1, Scope 2, and operational Scope 3) and achieving zero thermal coal exposure in its loan book by 31 March 2030.
