ZEISS Group, a German-headquartered company in the Medical, precision and optical instruments, watches and clocks industry, reported Scope 1 emissions of approximately 61,324 tonnes CO2e and Scope 2 (market-based) emissions of about 5,395 tonnes CO2e in 2025. This data is inherited from the parent company ZEISS Group.

In 2024, ZEISS Group's Scope 1 emissions were approximately 58,158 tonnes CO2e, Scope 2 (market-based) emissions were about 5,829 tonnes CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions totalled roughly 1,993,729 tonnes CO2e. Key Scope 3 categories included purchased goods and services at approximately 1,167,009 tonnes CO2e, capital goods at about 251,145 tonnes CO2e, and investments at roughly 101,487 tonnes CO2e.

Looking back, in 2023, Scope 1 emissions were around 56,930 tonnes CO2e, Scope 2 emissions were about 5,392 tonnes CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions were approximately 2,114,458 tonnes CO2e, with purchased goods and services being the largest contributor at about 1,195,069 tonnes CO2e.

ZEISS Group has set ambitious climate commitments. The company aims to achieve carbon neutrality in its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by fiscal year 2024/25. This commitment is supported by a target to reduce energy consumption by 20% by fiscal year 2024/25, relative to its own value added, with fiscal year 2018/19 as the baseline.

The company also has Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approved targets. ZEISS commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 42% by FY2030 from a FY2024 base year. Additionally, ZEISS aims to reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, capital goods, and use of sold products by 25% within the same timeframe. ZEISS further commits that 47% of its suppliers, by emissions covering purchased goods and services, capital goods, and upstream transportation and distribution, will have science-based targets by FY2030. These near-term targets are classified as consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C.
