Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) dataset
SBTi target status for over 13,000 companies, snapshotted weekly and ready to join against your Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions data.

What is the SBTi dataset?
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validates corporate emissions reduction targets against climate science and the goals of the Paris Agreement. This dataset turns its public register into structured records you can query and join: near-term and long-term target status, target classification and target year, net-zero commitment and net-zero year, whether the company joined the Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign before it closed to new commitments, and the sector and region of each company. It is snapshotted weekly, and as at 2026 the register covers over 13,000 companies.
How is this different from reading the SBTi register?
The register is published as a list to read. This is the same information as records to query, matched to companies through entity resolution against DUNS, LEI and ISIN identifiers. That means target status joins straight to your supplier list, your portfolio holdings, or the Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 figures for the same legal entity, without matching on company names.
Who uses it?
Sustainability, procurement and financial services teams who need target data at scale: to map decarbonisation progress across a supply chain, prioritise which organisations to engage, screen a portfolio on net-zero ambition, and collect evidence for disclosures such as CSRD, CDP, TCFD and SEC filings, without company-by-company lookups.
DitchCarbon provides verified emissions data for over 2 million organisations, so procurement, sustainability and finance teams can measure and act on supply chain and portfolio emissions from one source.
Fields in the dataset
Every row maps a company to its science-based target status and net-zero commitments, ready to join against emissions data.
| Field | Description | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Near-term target status | Whether a near-term science-based target is committed, validated, or absent. | string |
| Long-term target status | Status of the long-term or net-zero science-based target. | string |
| Target classification & year | Target ambition class (e.g. 1.5°C aligned) and the target completion year. | string / int |
| Net-zero commitment | Net-zero pledge and target year where disclosed. | int |
| Business Ambition for 1.5°C | Whether the company joined the Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign before it closed to new commitments. A historical flag: a false value means the company did not join while the campaign was open, not that it has declined to act. | boolean |
| Sector & region | Organisation sector classification and operating region. | string |

Frequently asked questions
Get answers to the questions procurement and sustainability teams ask most often.
A science-based target is an emissions reduction target validated by the Science Based Targets initiative as consistent with the goals of the Paris Agreement. A company can hold a near-term target, a long-term or net-zero target, or a commitment it has made but not yet had validated.
The dataset is snapshotted weekly from the SBTi register. Each record carries the date of the snapshot it came from, so you can tell exactly what was true when you pulled it.
Yes. Companies are matched through entity resolution against DUNS, LEI and ISIN identifiers, so you can send a supplier list or a portfolio and get target status back against your own identifiers rather than against company names.
Yes. A record can show a committed but unvalidated target, or no target at all. Coverage gaps are shown rather than hidden, which is what makes the dataset useful for deciding who to engage first.
A sample CSV and an API key are free with a business email. The full dataset is available by request, and the same records are in the DitchCarbon platform and in Snowflake.
Claim your profile to review what is recorded against your company and add targets you have set but not yet had validated, so the customers and investors asking about your climate plan see the current position.
