Aptiv's Carbon Emissions and Climate Commitments

Aptiv, headquartered in Ireland and operating within the motor vehicle parts sales, maintenance, and repair industry, has reported significant emissions data across Scopes 1, 2, and 3.

For the reporting year 2025, Aptiv's total greenhouse gas emissions were approximately 30.34 billion kg CO2e. This figure is comprised of approximately 25.61 million kg CO2e for Scope 1, approximately 212.55 million kg CO2e for Scope 2 (market-based), and approximately 28.06 billion kg CO2e for Scope 3.

In 2024, the company's total emissions were approximately 24.27 billion kg CO2e, with Scope 1 emissions at approximately 16.00 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 at approximately 230.26 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 at approximately 24.03 billion kg CO2e.

Reviewing earlier years, Aptiv reported total emissions of approximately 12.42 billion kg CO2e in 2023. This included Scope 1 emissions of approximately 18.02 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions of approximately 264.59 million kg CO2e (market-based), and Scope 3 emissions of approximately 12.14 billion kg CO2e. In 2022, total emissions were approximately 12.22 billion kg CO2e, with Scope 1 at approximately 21.28 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 at approximately 341.22 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 at approximately 11.85 billion kg CO2e.

Climate Commitments and Reduction Targets:

Aptiv has established ambitious climate targets aligned with global sustainability initiatives. A key near-term commitment is to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 100% by 2030, with a 2021 baseline year. This is further complemented by a target to reduce absolute Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 47.4% within the same timeframe. These targets are recognised by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C.

Previously, Aptiv had set a target to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 25% by 2025 from a 2019 baseline. The company also has a long-term goal to achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2040, addressing all aspects of the production process.

It is important to note that while Aptiv has disclosed comprehensive data, some data points, such as Scope 3 purchased goods and services, were marked as missing for certain reporting years. The company's emissions data is not cascaded from a parent organisation.
