The British Standards Institution (BSI) reported total carbon emissions of approximately 19.4 million kg CO2e in 2024. This figure includes 766,000 kg CO2e from Scope 1 emissions, 242,000 kg CO2e from Scope 2 market-based emissions, and approximately 14 million kg CO2e from Scope 3 emissions, with employee commute accounting for 4.4 million kg CO2e.

BSI has committed to several climate targets. They aimed to reduce Scope 1 emissions by 30% and Scope 2 emissions by 25% from a 2017 baseline by 2025. In 2024, BSI stated that they reduced their combined Scope 1 and 2 market-based emissions by 14.5% compared to the previous year. The British Standards Institution is a member of the Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign and has committed to net-zero through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), with targets aligned to the UK Government's goal of cutting emissions by 78% by 2035 (from 1990 levels) and reaching net zero by 2050.
