British Standards Institution's Carbon Emissions & Climate Commitments

The British Standards Institution (BSI), headquartered in GB, reported total global carbon emissions of approximately 19,423,000 kg CO2e in 2024. These emissions comprise 766,000 kg CO2e from Scope 1, 242,000 kg CO2e from Scope 2 (market-based), and 13,980,000 kg CO2e from Scope 3, with employee commute accounting for 4,434,000 kg CO2e of the Scope 3 total. This represents an increase from 2023, where total emissions were about 16,712,000 kg CO2e.

BSI has demonstrated reductions in its operational emissions, reporting a 14.5% reduction in combined Scope 1 and Scope 2 market-based emissions between 2023 and 2024. Looking ahead, BSI aims for a 30% reduction in Scope 1 emissions and a 25% reduction in Scope 2 emissions by 2025, both against a 2017 baseline.

Regarding broader climate commitments, BSI has made a net-zero commitment through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Although an initial near-term target commitment was removed, BSI remains committed to net-zero, with a long-term target year of 2050 for all scopes.
