Cemig, a transmission services provider based in Brazil, has reported substantial greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In 2024, the company's total calculated emissions reached approximately 6.43 billion kg CO2e. This figure is a sum of Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions.

Scope 1 emissions for 2024 amounted to approximately 42.86 million kg CO2e, with significant contributions from mobile combustion and fugitive emissions. Scope 2 emissions were reported at around 376.17 million kg CO2e, primarily from purchased electricity. Scope 3 emissions were the largest component, totalling approximately 5.91 billion kg CO2e, heavily influenced by fuel and energy-related activities and the use of sold products.

Cemig has set ambitious climate commitments, including a near-term target to reduce absolute GHG emissions of scopes 1 and 2 by 69.4% by 2030, using 2021 as the base year. The company also aims to achieve net-zero GHG emissions across its value chain by 2040. Further targets include a 70.8% reduction in absolute GHG emissions for scopes 1 and 2 by 2030 and a 90.0% reduction by 2040, both against a 2021 baseline. Cemig also has long-term goals to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from the use of sold products by 90.0% by 2040 and all remaining absolute scope 3 emissions by 90.0% by 2040.
