In 2025, Centrica reported Scope 1 emissions of approximately 1.57 billion kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions of about 9.42 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions of approximately 18.29 billion kg CO2e. This reflects a decrease from 2024, when Scope 1 emissions were approximately 1.73 billion kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions were about 6.34 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions were approximately 21.86 billion kg CO2e. Looking further back, in 2023, the company's Scope 1 emissions stood at about 1.68 billion kg CO2e, Scope 2 at approximately 7.38 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 at about 21.18 billion kg CO2e.

Centrica has set ambitious climate targets. The company aims to be a net-zero business by 2040, an acceleration from its previous 2045 target. This long-term goal is supported by an interim target to achieve a 50% reduction in total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2032, using a 2019 baseline. This represents an increase from an earlier target of a 40% reduction by 2034. Centrica also aims to help its customers achieve net-zero by 2050, with a 28% greenhouse gas intensity reduction by the end of 2030.

The company has previously met targets, such as reducing its Central Power Generation carbon intensity by 55% by 2020 (from a 2008 baseline) and its core internal carbon footprint by 20% by 2025 (from a 2015 baseline). In 2015, the company had a Scope 1 emissions total of approximately 1.96 billion kg CO2e.
