Centrica, a UK-based natural gas distribution company, is committed to achieving net-zero emissions. For 2025, the company reported total emissions of approximately 21.9 billion kg CO2e, comprising Scope 1 emissions of about 1.57 billion kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions of approximately 9.42 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions of about 18.3 billion kg CO2e. In 2024, total emissions were around 23.6 billion kg CO2e, with Scope 1 at approximately 1.73 billion kg CO2e, Scope 2 at about 6.34 million kg CO2e, and Scope 3 at roughly 21.9 billion kg CO2e.

Centrica has set ambitious climate targets, including becoming a net-zero business by 2045, which is five years ahead of the UK target. This net-zero goal encompasses 100% of its global Scope 1 and 2 emissions, normalised for divestments and acquisitions against a 2019 baseline. An interim target aims for a 40% reduction in total carbon emissions by 2034 from 2019 levels. More recently, Centrica has strengthened its climate targets, aiming for a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2032 (against a 2019 base year) as an interim goal, working towards a long-term target of net zero by 2040. They also aim to help their customers achieve net zero by 2050, with a target of 28% GHG intensity reduction by the end of 2030. The company has reported meeting an interim target early to reduce its core internal carbon footprint by 20% by 2025 (baseline 2015).
