Cognizant, a US-based company in the Computer and related services industry, reported approximately 491.2 million kg CO2e in total emissions for the year 2024. Of this, Scope 1 emissions accounted for about 8.64 million kg CO2e, and Scope 2 emissions were approximately 115.63 million kg CO2e (location-based). Scope 3 emissions were the largest contributor, totalling around 423.03 million kg CO2e, with purchased goods and services being a significant component at approximately 174.20 million kg CO2e.

For 2025, Cognizant's total emissions were reported at approximately 527.72 million kg CO2e. Scope 1 emissions were around 6.39 million kg CO2e, and Scope 2 emissions were approximately 112.37 million kg CO2e (location-based). Scope 3 emissions were reported at approximately 466.30 million kg CO2e, with purchased goods and services making up a substantial portion at roughly 217.15 million kg CO2e.

Cognizant has established ambitious climate commitments, including a commitment to achieve Net Zero emissions across its value chain by 2040, with a base year of 2019. To support this, they aim to reduce absolute emissions by 90% by 2040. In the near term, Cognizant is working towards a 50% reduction in absolute emissions by 2030, and has set a target to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 77% by 2030, and absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 47% within the same timeframe, all from a 2019 baseline. Furthermore, they aim to source 100% of their electricity from renewable sources by 2026. Cognizant is also a signatory to the Climate Pledge.
