Cognizant, a US-based company in the Computer and related services industry, reported total emissions of approximately 527.7 million kg CO2e in 2025. This includes about 6.39 million kg CO2e from Scope 1 emissions, approximately 55.03 million kg CO2e from market-based Scope 2 emissions (or 112.37 million kg CO2e from location-based Scope 2 emissions), and roughly 466.30 million kg CO2e from Scope 3 emissions.

In 2024, Cognizant's total emissions were approximately 491.2 million kg CO2e, with Scope 1 emissions at around 8.64 million kg CO2e, market-based Scope 2 emissions at about 59.54 million kg CO2e (or 115.63 million kg CO2e location-based), and Scope 3 emissions totalling roughly 423.03 million kg CO2e.

For 2023, the company's total emissions were approximately 533.05 million kg CO2e, comprising around 9.42 million kg CO2e for Scope 1, about 67.15 million kg CO2e for market-based Scope 2 (or 119.36 million kg CO2e location-based), and roughly 456.49 million kg CO2e for Scope 3 emissions.

Cognizant has set ambitious climate commitments. The company aims for Net Zero emissions across its value chain by 2040, using a 2019 base year. For near-term targets, Cognizant commits to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 77% by 2030 from a 2019 base year. Additionally, the company aims to reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 47% within the same timeframe. The long-term target is to reduce absolute Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions by 90% by 2040 from a 2019 base year. These targets, covering Scope 1 and 2 emissions, are classified as consistent with a 1.5°C global warming limit by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Cognizant became a signatory to The Climate Pledge in October 2021.
