EdgeConneX, a US-based company operating in the Computer and related services sector, has reported significant progress in its climate commitments. In 2024, the company's Scope 1 emissions were approximately 17.9 million kg CO2e, with substantial Scope 3 emissions reaching about 498.3 million kg CO2e, driven largely by capital goods and purchased goods and services. Building on the previous year, Scope 1 emissions in 2023 were approximately 10.3 million kg CO2e and Scope 3 emissions totalled around 368 million kg CO2e. This followed 2022 figures where Scope 1 emissions were approximately 36.5 million kg CO2e and Scope 3 emissions stood at around 354.3 million kg CO2e. Earlier data from 2021 indicated Scope 1 emissions of approximately 37.9 million kg CO2e and Scope 2 emissions of about 1.3 million kg CO2e, with Scope 3 emissions at a considerable 1.4 billion kg CO2e. EdgeConneX has established ambitious targets to address its carbon footprint. The company is committed to the European Green Deal and aims for climate neutrality by 2050. More immediately, by 2030, EdgeConneX aims to become a carbon- and water-neutral and zero-waste data centre provider, utilising 100% renewable energy. In line with its Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitments, EdgeConneX International Cooperatief U.A. has pledged to reduce its absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50.3% by 2030, using 2021 as a baseline year. Furthermore, the company commits to reducing its Scope 3 emissions by 51.6% per megawatt of installed data centre capacity within the same timeframe. These targets are classified as 1.5°C aligned, indicating their consistency with the reductions required to keep global warming to 1.5°C. EdgeConneX also signed the Amazon Climate Pledge in December 2023.
