Illy

Illy, headquartered in Italy and operating in the Beverages industry, reported its most recent carbon emissions data for 2025, with a total of approximately 265,122,700 kg CO2e. This includes about 8,574,000 kg CO2e from Scope 1 emissions, 249,300 kg CO2e from Scope 2 market-based emissions, and 256,299,400 kg CO2e from Scope 3 emissions.

For 2024, Illy's total emissions were approximately 253,595,700 kg CO2e. This comprised around 7,890,700 kg CO2e from Scope 1, 531,400 kg CO2e from Scope 2 market-based, and 245,173,700 kg CO2e from Scope 3. In 2023, the company's total emissions were approximately 242,009,500 kg CO2e, with Scope 1 emissions at about 7,047,700 kg CO2e, Scope 2 at approximately 6,205,800 kg CO2e, and Scope 3 at about 233,758,200 kg CO2e.

Illy's climate commitments, as reported by SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) from its ultimate parent, illycaffè S.p.A., include several targets. The company aims to achieve net-zero GHG emissions across its value chain by 2050.

Near-term SBTi targets, with a base year of 2021:

• Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 55.4% by 2033.
• Reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, fuel and energy related activities, upstream transportation and distribution, and end-of-life treatment of sold products by 61.1% per tonne of sold coffee by 2033.
• Reduce absolute Scope 3 FLAG GHG emissions by 39.4% by 2033. Illy also commits to no deforestation across its primary deforestation-linked commodities by December 31, 2025.

Long-term SBTi targets, with a base year of 2021:

• Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 90% by 2050.
• Reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, fuel and energy related activities, upstream and downstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations, business travel, employee commuting, and end-of-life treatment of sold products by 97% per tonne of sold coffee by 2050.
• Reduce absolute purchased Scope 3 FLAG GHG emissions by 72% by 2050.

Illy also had a documented near-term intensity target to reduce Scope 2 emissions by 9.3% between 2021 and 2022, resulting in 11.4 t CO2eq/t of roasted coffee in 2022. Additionally, earlier targets included a 20% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2020, from a 2017 base year.
