illy, headquartered in Italy, reported estimated total Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions of approximately 265,122,700 kg CO2e in 2025. This follows total emissions of approximately 253,595,700 kg CO2e in 2024, and approximately 242,009,500 kg CO2e in 2023.
In 2025, illy's Scope 1 emissions were about 8,574,000 kg CO2e, with Scope 2 (market-based) at approximately 249,300 kg CO2e and Scope 3 at about 290,970,700 kg CO2e. For Scope 3, significant categories included upstream transportation and distribution (approximately 239,361,000 kg CO2e) and purchased goods and services (approximately 197,508,300 kg CO2e).
Looking back, in 2024, Scope 1 emissions were about 7,890,700 kg CO2e, Scope 2 (market-based) were approximately 531,400 kg CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions were around 278,712,900 kg CO2e. illycaffè has set ambitious Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitments. They aim for net-zero GHG emissions across their value chain by 2050. Near-term targets include a 55.4% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2033 from a 2021 base year. Additionally, they commit to reducing Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, fuel and energy related activities, upstream transportation and distribution, and end-of-life treatment of sold products by 61.1% per tonne of sold coffee within the same timeframe. For FLAG (Forest, Land and Agriculture) emissions, illycaffè targets a 39.4% absolute reduction in Scope 3 FLAG GHG emissions by 2033 from a 2021 base year, alongside a commitment to no deforestation across primary deforestation-linked commodities by December 31, 2025.
Long-term, illycaffè aims for a 90% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2050 from a 2021 base year. They also commit to a 97% reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions per tonne of sold coffee from purchased goods and services, fuel and energy related activities, upstream and downstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations, business travel, employee commuting, and end-of-life treatment of sold products by 2050. Absolute purchased Scope 3 FLAG GHG emissions are targeted for a 72% reduction by 2050 from a 2021 base year. These targets are consistent with keeping warming to 1.5°C.
illycaffè has also set a near-term absolute reduction target of 20% for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2020, based on a 2017 baseline.
