illy (Illycaffè S.p.A.), an Italian beverages company, reported total carbon emissions of approximately 265,122,700 kg CO2e for 2025. This includes Scope 1 emissions of about 8,574,000 kg CO2e, market-based Scope 2 emissions of approximately 249,300 kg CO2e (or location-based Scope 2 emissions of 6,434,300 kg CO2e), and Scope 3 emissions of around 256,299,400 kg CO2e.
Looking back, their total emissions were approximately 253,595,700 kg CO2e in 2024, 242,009,500 kg CO2e in 2023, 255,666,200 kg CO2e in 2022, and 277,235,000 kg CO2e in 2021. For 2020, only Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions were reported, totalling approximately 5,729,250 kg CO2e (market-based) or 8,752,770 kg CO2e (location-based).
illycaffè has Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approved targets. They are committed to reaching net-zero GHG emissions across their value chain by 2050. Their near-term targets, with a 2021 base year, include reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 55.4% by 2033. Additionally, they aim to reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, fuel and energy related activities, upstream transportation and distribution, and end-of-life treatment of sold products by 61.1% per tonne of sold coffee by 2033. illycaffè also commits to a 39.4% absolute reduction in Scope 3 FLAG GHG emissions by 2033 from a 2021 base year and no deforestation across primary deforestation-linked commodities by December 31, 2025.
For long-term targets, illycaffè aims to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 90% by 2050 from a 2021 base year. They also commit to reducing Scope 3 GHG emissions from various categories (purchased goods and services, fuel and energy related activities, upstream and downstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations, business travel, employee commuting, and end-of-life treatment of sold products) by 97% per tonne of sold coffee by 2050. Furthermore, they target a 72% absolute reduction in purchased Scope 3 FLAG GHG emissions by 2050 from a 2021 base year.
illycaffè has also previously set a near-term target to reduce company consumption by 20% by 2020 for both Scope 1 and Scope 2. In 2022, their Scope 2 emissions intensity was 11.4 tonnes CO2e per tonne of roasted coffee, marking a 9.3% reduction compared to 2021.
