LG Chem, headquartered in South Korea and operating within the chemicals sector, has outlined ambitious climate commitments. For 2024, the company reported Scope 1 emissions of approximately 5.65 billion kg CO2e and Scope 2 emissions of approximately 3.70 billion kg CO2e (market-based). In 2023, total Scope 1 and 2 emissions were approximately 9.08 billion kg CO2e, with Scope 1 at around 5.19 billion kg CO2e and Scope 2 at about 3.89 billion kg CO2e. These figures represent significant operational emissions for the chemical manufacturer.

LG Chem is committed to achieving Net-Zero emissions by 2050. This long-term goal is supported by a strategy that includes reducing direct emissions, avoiding indirect emissions, and utilising carbon offsets. The company has also set a target for '2030 Carbon-neutral Growth' for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, an advancement of their previous carbon-neutral goals. Specifically, LG Chem aims to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 50% from 2019 levels by 2050. Furthermore, they intend to use 100% renewable energy by 2030 for their overseas business sites and by 2050 for their sites in Korea. In line with these commitments, LG Chem has also set near-term targets to achieve carbon-neutral growth by 2030.
