For 2025, MSC reported total Scope 1 emissions of approximately 49.75 billion kg CO2e, which includes about 48.1 billion kg CO2e from mobile combustion. MSC has set several climate commitments, including a long-term net-zero target for all scopes by or around 2050, referencing a 2008 baseline, as highlighted in their 2023 Sustainability Report. More recent commitments from their 2024 Sustainability Report also state a net-zero target by 2050.
The company aims for an absolute reduction in total annual GHG emissions of 20% (striving for 30%) by 2030, compared to 2008 levels. Further long-term targets include a 70% reduction (striving for 80%) by 2040, also compared to 2008.
