ODP, a US-based company operating in wholesale trade and commission trade services (excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles), has reported significant greenhouse gas emissions. For the reporting year 2024, the company's total calculated emissions were approximately 5.2 billion kg CO2e. This total comprises approximately 38.7 million kg CO2e from Scope 1 emissions and around 132.8 million kg CO2e from Scope 2 emissions (market-based). Scope 3 emissions were the largest contributor, totalling approximately 5.03 billion kg CO2e. Key drivers within Scope 3 for 2024 included the use of sold products (about 2.3 billion kg CO2e) and downstream transportation and distribution (approximately 965.5 million kg CO2e). In 2022, ODP's total calculated emissions were approximately 6.15 billion kg CO2e, with Scope 1 emissions at about 50.9 million kg CO2e, Scope 2 emissions at around 104.7 million kg CO2e (market-based), and Scope 3 emissions at approximately 5.99 billion kg CO2e. ODP has established clear climate commitments. Notably, the company has committed to reduce its absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 46.2% by 2030, using 2019 as a baseline year. This target is aligned with a 1.5°C warming scenario. Furthermore, ODP aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. In line with its Scope 3 reduction goals, ODP is also committed to ensuring that 75% of its suppliers, based on spend for purchased goods and services, will have science-based targets by 2027. The company is also targeting a 55% reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions from downstream transportation and distribution and the use of sold products, per USD value added, by 2030 from a 2019 baseline.
